Girls Sports Clothes

*This is a sponsored post in partnership with Athleta Girl.

We recently had the opportunity to try out Athleta’s girls sports clothes along with some matching tights for me.  As a basketball coach and a mom of 4 kids life sure is busy.  I love that Athleta has options that can take me from mom duty to high school basketball coach.

I have 2 daughters who love girls sports clothes and Athleta’s did not disappoint.  Athleta’s girls sports clothes are SO soft and stay put so my girls can move easily.  I love the empowering messages on many of their tops that encourage my girls to be strong and most importantly, to be themselves.

For sure my favorite detail of the Salutation Slash Pocket Tights is that pocket!!!  With 4 kids I try to keep my phone near-by just incase they need to get ahold of me.  My phone fit comfortably inside the pocket and didn’t move when I was moving, so awesome!  As we practiced it started to cool down as it does in the evenings in Southern California.  I really liked the Run Free Half Zip pullover I threw on as it both kept me warm and looked professional which was great when I headed to work.

As a High School girls’ basketball coach and a mother of 2 daughters I am passionate about spreading the word about the value of sports for girls.  Recently my best friend, Amber, from Global Munchkins, and I were talking and she was shocked to find out that by the age of 14 girls are dropping out of sports at a 1.5x faster rate than boys.  Yet, Fortune Magazine found that 65% of women in executive positions in business played sports.  Not to mention what sports has to offer for keeping girls fit as well as teaching them how to work with a team.  Not only do I love what Athleta has to offer in girls sports clothes, but I also love their mission to raise awareness about girls in sports.  Athleta has a campaign working on keeping girls in the game and recently asked what I would tell my daughters to encourage them to keep playing sports.  Below you will find the letter I wrote to my daughters in reaction to Athleta’s question…..

Dear Girls,

I want you to stay in the game because it will teach you that you are stronger than you know.  You will face challenges, you will fail, but then you will get back up and keep trying until you succeed.  Sports will teach you that you can’t accomplish your goals without a team that learns to work together.  Your teammates will become your closest friends because you will battle through sweat and tears to reach the top.  You will learn how to lean on people and to hold them up when they need you the most.  There will be many days that you will want to quit because it will be hard.  DO NOT QUIT.  By not quitting you will learn that life can be hard, but through hard times we grow stronger.  The stronger you are, the higher you’ll climb.  That’s what I want for you girls, I want you to know that you can do anything you put your mind to and nothing can stand in your way!!

Love, Mom
